El Cajon is the largest city in East County with approximately 100,000 residents. Nicknamed “The Big Box," it sits in a valley surrounded by mountains and is 15 miles east of Downtown San Diego. Within its 15 square miles are numerous parks, community centers and churches, almost two dozen elementary schools, six middle schools and six high schools. It also has three higher education institutions and two golf courses. The median household income is around $60,000.
