All About Fallbrook

Rolling hills, agriculture fields, ancient oak trees, and trails for biking, hiking and horseback riding all combine with a Mediterranean climate to make Fallbrook in far northern San Diego County a unique place to call home.

Fallbrook offers something you just can't get anywhere else in San Diego County. In Fallbrook, you can still get a sizeable piece of property for a lot less than in some other areas of the county, and the ocean is only 15 miles away. The area also maintains a very small-town feel with many community activities and events throughout the year. In fact, Fallbrook is often referred to as ‘The Friendly Village.’

The community was originally founded in the area known today as Live Oak County Park. The Vital Reche family was the first to settle the area. They named the community ‘Fall Brook’ after their former homestead in Pennsylvania.

The present town site was plotted in 1885 and there are a number of original buildings that are still in use today. The original Fallbrook School still serves the community as the Reche Clubhouse, and a community church that was built in 1890 is still in use today.

Agriculture is an important part of Fallbrook’s roots. In fact, there are more than 60 wholesale and retail nurseries in the area today. Oak trees were originally the primary foliage in Fallbrook. Olives became a major crop by the 1920s and continued through World War II. But they were eventually phased out in favor of the present-day avocado and floral industry. Each year the ‘Avocado Capital of the World’ celebrates its green bounty with the annual Avocado Festival.
