All About Carmel Valley, San Diego

Carmel Valley is one of the newer neighborhoods in San Diego County. The master-planned community, which sits at the foot Carmel Mountain, was constructed beginning in 1983. The name Carmel Valley (not to be confused with Carmel Valley Village in northern California) comes from the location of the area at the foot of Carmel Mountain. Carmel Mountain was named for the Carmelite Sisters of Mercy, a group that established a diary farm and monastery in the area around 1905.

Recently, Carmel Valley has grown extensively, thanks to the good schools, the quality of the neighborhoods, and its convenient, centralized location within San Diego County. The Carmel Valley communities are often grouped into an area known as ‘North County,’ which encompasses towns like Carlsbad, Encinitas, Escondido, Oceanside, Poway and Solana Beach, to name a few.

Santaluz is one of the area’s premier neighborhoods. A sanctuary for its residents, Santaluz appeals to those who enjoy a coastal California lifestyle, including hiking and biking trails; a village that cultivates a real sense of community; and a club life that offers tennis, golf, pool, spa, restaurants, a fitness center and the village green.

The gated community of Santaluz is known for its open space and privacy. The community features 3,800 acres with only 900 home sites and only one home built on every four acres. Rolling hills, canyons, views that stretch from the mountains to the ocean, a place of peace and tranquility – all of these are characteristic of the Santaluz lifestyle.
