Willis Allen Real Estate Named Merchant of the Year by the Coronado Schools Foundation (CSF)

CSF logo For Willis Allen Real Estate, supporting the communities where we live and work is important. That’s why we’re excited to announce that we’ve been named 2019 Merchant of the Year by the Coronado Schools Foundation (CSF).

Yay us! And yay for Coronado kids!

We’ve been financially supporting CSF since 1999. Here’s what Willis Allen Real Estate’s Coronado Branch Manager, Steven Kilgore, had to say. “This is such a great honor, and we are thrilled to be recognized by this important community organization. CSF does so much to create exceptional learning experiences for all Coronado Unified School District students.”

CSF will present the award at the game show-themed 2019 Telethon on Thursday, March 14. It’s at Coronado High School. The event features a fun family carnival and a telethon to help raise $1M for Coronado’s students.

Steven will attend the event and Willis Allen Realtor Kelli Konezny will be working the telethon phones. We hope you’ll consider joining us, too!

Mimi’s Marchers Take Part in San Diego Alzheimer’s Walk

In October, a team from Willis Allen Real Estate took part in the San Diego Alzheimer’s Walk. They were there in memory of Mimi Mitchell, the mother of long time Willis Allen Real Estate employee Leslie Kilpatrick. Sadly, Mimi died in early October after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer’s.

“It took a huge toll on our entire family for more than a decade,” says Leslie. “We support this cause because all of the Alzheimer’s San Diego services are free to families. We are so grateful to everyone who walked with us and helped support this worthy cause with the money we raised together.”

Alzheimer’s in San Diego

There are more than 84,000 San Diegans living with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. The Walk4ALZ helps provide San Diego families with care and support today. It also helps advance local research so that a cure can be found tomorrow.

The Willis Allen Real Estate Team was dubbed Mimi’s Marchers in honor of Leslie’s brave and beautiful mother. At the event, there was a booth specifically for this group where they got VIP registration, tee-shirts and other swag.

“This event is important not only to raise funds for Alzheimer’s support and research, but also to give the families who are dealing with the disease much-needed emotional support,” says Leslie. “These families truly need this day of camaraderie and companionship, and it was a real blessing to be surrounded by so many friends from Willis Allen Real Estate.”

Deb Schrakamp Helps Raise Awareness for Two San Diego Non-Profits: Voices for Children & Promises2kids

Deb Schrakamp Realtor at Willis Allen Real EstateLa Jolla, California (March 2018) – Realtor Deb Schrakamp from Willis Allen Real Estate’s La Jolla office is helping raise awareness for the Wine, Women & Shoes fundraiser, benefiting the non-profit group Voices for Children. The event is being held on May 12 from 1-4 p.m. at the Del Mar Plaza. Voices for Children provides a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) to every child in the foster care system who needs one, monitors every court file in the system, and advocates to improve the lives of foster children.

“I feel it’s imperative to provide much-needed support to young adults working their way through life without the support of a family,” says Schrakamp, who volunteers with Promises2kids and is also a CASA. “San Diego County has so many foster youth that need another layer of support and another voice, and that is exactly what these organizations do. I hope everyone will consider supporting this important cause by attending the Wine, Women & Shoes fundraiser in May.”

The Wine, Women & Shoes event includes a fashion show, wine tastings, food tasting, design shopping, an exciting live auction and more. Tickets cost $250 and can be purchased at https://speakupnow.ejoinme.org/2018winewomenshoes.

Schrakamp says she appreciates the “give back” culture at Willis Allen Real estate and is inspired by the agents who work with a variety of charities throughout San Diego County.

Phil & Pam Reed Help San Diego Humane Society Make Adoption Fees Free in December

Reed TeamLa Jolla, Calif. (Dec. 2017) – Willis Allen Realtors Phil and Pam Reed of Willis Allen’s Reed Team are sponsoring the San Diego Humane Society’s “Gift of Love” Adoption promotion along with their client Sharon Blanchet of ABC Family Law. Through their generous donations, adoption fees are waived for all 900 animals available at the San Diego Human Society campuses and satellite adoption centers from Dec. 15-24.

“We’re happy to help our client and friend Sharon support such a worthy cause in San Diego County,” says Phil. “There are so many animals that are looking for their forever homes, and we hope this event helps shed a light on the needs of these animals during the holiday season.”

Pam says Willis Allen promotes giving back to the community. “It’s a pillar of the Willis Allen company to encourage all of its agents to donate time and talents to San Diego charities, and that’s something I really love about our brokerage,” she says.

Every animal adopted from the San Diego Humane Society is spayed or neutered, current on all vaccines, microchipped, and is sent home with a certificate for a free veterinary exam, 30 days of worry-free pet insurance from Trupanion and his/her first bag of food from Purina.

“Phil and I toured the Humane Society’s facility on Gaines Street, and we were simply amazed at the extent of their program, extending to even saving animals during the flooding disasters in other parts of the country,” adds Pam.

Willis Allen’s Sean Caddell Aids in Ocean Discovery Institute’s Fundraiser

ocean discovery institute galaOnce again this year, Willis Allen Realtor Sean Caddell – who is also an Ocean Discovery Institute board member – helped Ocean Discovery raise a record amount of money in support of tuition-free science education programs for urban youth.

Annual Bubble Up! Gala 2016

Ocean Discovery’s annual black-tie Bubble Up! gala drew more than 300 business and philanthropic heroes to the Omni La Costa Resort in September. This year’s theme, Our Heroes…Extraordinary, celebrated the outstanding endeavors and achievements of both supporters and students.

Gala attendees donated $310,000, making this year’s gala the most successful to date. Proceeds from the gala will support programs and pave the way for an expansion that will provide 20,000 young people with hands-on science and conservation education every year.

Caddell, who like all Willis Allen Realtors puts a strong emphasis on community service and volunteerism, says he considered the success of the gala truly extraordinary. “It was an incredible evening that surpassed our wildest expectations,” says Caddell. “Our community of supporters truly showed their super powers – connecting to our amazing students and then raising their paddles in support of them. We are so grateful for their incredible generosity.”

Gala attendees enjoyed a lively auction, an inspiring student-infused program, and a chance to meet Ocean Discovery students to hear firsthand how the institute has impacted their journey to a scientific future. They met college graduates who are now in science careers, high school and middle school students who recently traveled to Baja California to conduct research with scientists in the field, and elementary school students who are just beginning their journey.

Bubble Up! was made possible by the support of Boeing; Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP; Cox Communications; KP Environmental; RECON; SDG&E; Bumble Bee Foods; On Call Staffing Solutions; and Hughes Marino.

Willis Allen Helps La Jolla Youth Baseball “Play Ball!”

LaJollaBaseball-WillisAllen-Logos-2015The 2015 World Series may have just wrapped up, but already young baseball stars-in-the-making are turning their attention to the upcoming season of La Jolla Youth Baseball. Willis Allen is helping them realize their “field of dreams.”

For the 63rd year in a row, Willis Allen is sponsoring the La Jolla Youth Baseball league. The league was started back in 1952, and Willis Allen has been a sponsor ever since! It’s just one more example of how Willis Allen and its Realtors, staff and managers are committed to the communities in which we live and work.

The 2016 season gets started in February and runs through June (registration is open now!). There are a two All-Star tournaments in the summertime. The league is organized by age. That structure allows players to compete against kids their own age. The field expands as players age up in to the older leagues. Young players are introduced to the advanced rules of baseball (think stealing and pitching) at a young age. It’s all designed to maximize development while minimizing injuries.

Willis Allen Participates in “Operation: Solar for San Diego Troops”

Willis Allen and GRID Alternatives San Diego have teamed up to help transition veterans to clean and renewable energy in San Diego. GRID Alternative’s “Operation: Solar for San Diego Troops” aims to reduce the cost of housing through solar power. It offers an economic benefit to our local veterans while at the same time leading San Diego toward a brighter environmental future through solar energy.

GRID logoWe’ll donate time and money to help GRID Alternatives provide energy cost-savings and a source of clean local energy to local veterans’ homes. The project also offers hands-on experience for veteran volunteers. Four of the projects will be completed in partnership with the veterans’ program for Habitat for Humanity.

The four-month project kicks off next Thursday (July 9) and will provide solar panels for up to 10 veteran homes. A finale event will be held in conjunction with the Veteran’s Day holiday in November.

As you may know, our own CEO and president, Andrew E. Nelson is a veteran himself. “I’m honored to be part of something that gives back to those who’ve served,” Nelson says. “We’ve just designated 30 agents as ‘green’ and this is one way we can walk the walk, not just talk the talk. We’re committed to making our community more environmentally-friendly and look forward to maintaining a relationship with GRID Alternatives for future builds.”

Willis Allen Real Estate is donating a large grant. Our agents are fundraising and volunteering their time. To learn more about our efforts, visit http://www.solarforsandiegotroops.com/. If you want to nominate a veteran who can benefit from Operation: Solar for San Diego Troops, send their name and brief story to: operationsolar@gridalternatives.org.

Coronado, Calif. (Oct. 22, 2012) – More than 200 people, 77 pets and six chili chefs participated in the first annual Pet Parade and Chili Cook-off benefiting PAWS of Coronado. The event, organized by two Willis Allen Real Estate agents, Caroline Haines and Carol McGraw, raised approximately $14,000 for PAWS of Coronado, a non-profit animal welfare organization.

The family-friendly festival was sponsored by the Coronado Real Estate Association, of which McGraw is president, and the City of Coronado. The best chili cook was awarded the prize for “Best Chili of the Year;” animals were available for adoption; and pets were paraded for prizes including “Most Handsome Male,” “Prettiest Female,” “Most Beautiful Rescue,” “Best Costume,” and “Most Gorgeous Senior Pet.”

“This was such a fun event for such a wonderful cause,” says McGraw. Haines adds, “All of our volunteers really pitched in to make this a huge success. It’s one of the best charity events I’ve ever had the privilege to be part of!”
